Untitled (Fat), 2024 is an exploration of my experience with body image and identity, particularly in relation to experiences with fat shaming and shifting states of body image over a period of adolescence. Multiple velvet cushions represent specific body sizes that I documented over this period are suspended in a deconstructed configuration adorned with beadwork and embroidery. The work represents my body over this period, the beginning of a new relationship and understanding of these experiences and a new more positive connection with my body.
This is the newest work in an ongoing series titled “Moonlight/ klayr di leun” which broadly draws references from my understanding of my body, identities, and my environments while drawing on memories of making art with my Nanny and other mother figures. “Moonlight/ klayr di leun” as a whole makes use of tracing and measurements obtained from my body, my environments, and found objects from those spaces to inform the size and style of the work and making links between the body with nature.
