Title: Sterilization

Series: Mother One Day

Date: 2017

Material: Still image

Photo Description: Work on display at Gallery of Student Art at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg Manitoba, 2017.

In Mother One Day I use artificial flowers to symbolize infertility/fertility and I explore female health issues that result in infertility or loss of ‘womanliness’. Each year I assume the identity of a ‘creator/ruler/architect’ dressed in white coveralls and submerge individual flowers into white house paint repeatedly; sterilizing 365 flowers to exemplify the removal of societal/ institutional constructs of the female role for the previous year.
